The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) have revealed the most popular manufacturer for the first month of the year.
Volkswagen came out on top with a total of 11,460 cars registered for January.
Whilst Volkswagen's were the most registered brand for the month, when compared to January 2023, they have seen a reduction of 7.8% of cars registered.

However, BMW, the second most registered manufacturer had seen an increase of 38.2% in the number of vehicles registered when compared to January 2023.
Breaking down these top ten manufacturers, there is a 50-50 split for those that have experienced growth when compared to 2023 and those that have seen less vehicles registered in the same period.
Looking at the wider new car market, for January it saw growth when compared to January 2023 of 8.2%. This growth for the month came once again from fleet vehicles which has been a growing trend across recent months. Private sales currently are not aiding with the growth of the new car market.
This strong first month of the year has resulted in 18 months of continuous growth for the new car market. For 2024, the SMMT predicts a total of 1.974 million new vehicles to be registered. This is a slight increase on what they predicted in October 2023.
