As the end of my first semester approaches quickly, I am left with asking myself what is the next step?
The first (and biggest) challenge that I need to tackle is my first assignment at university. I have plenty of time to complete the assignment and I feel that I am prepared to tackle the assignment. One part of the assignment that I have to complete, leads me nicely to the next thing that I need to tackle and that is work experience. This is because for my assignment, I need to show evidence that I have been researching different organisations for my placement. For my placement, I decided to research into working at Birmingham Live. I decided this because it is a local news outlet and one area of journalism that I am particularly enjoying covering at the moment is local news. As a result, for my placement I thought that it would be a good idea to look into a news outlet that revolves around local news.
Along with this, I feel that because I come from a smaller town that sometimes can be under reported, it would offer a new angle for the outlet and the chance for there to be stories that may have potentially missed.
I am looking forward to applying for my work placement as I have a strong interest in seeing how a real news room will function. In conjunction, I am really looking forward to putting the skills that I have learnt. In addition, I feel that by challenging my skills it will help me develop into a better journalist. I also feel that this opportunity will allow me to show in a professional setting.
