Despite the latest installment in the Grand Theft Auto series having its trailer leaked before its release today, it has gone to set a new record on YouTube.

The record that the trailer has broken is becoming the most viewed non-music video on the platform. Currently the video has 78 million views since it was released late last night, at the time of writing.

Originally the video was set to be released at 2pm GMT. However at 11pm last night Rockstar published a tweet stating: "Our trailer has leaked so please watch the real thing here".

Korean boy band BTS still hold the record for the most viewed video in 24 hours with their video for the song "Butter" in 2021. It was able to rake in 108 million views according to The Guiness Book of World Records.

Previously, this record used to belong to YouTuber Mr Beast. His video titled "7 Days Stranded at Sea." This video was able to reach 46 million views in the same time frame as GTA 6.

The release of GTA 6's trailer comes 12 years after the release of GTA 5's which went on to become one of the most successful games of all time. Currently the game has sold over 190 million copies since its release in 2013 according to Statista.

Last month rockstar announced that the trailer for the highly anticipated game would be released in early December. This neatly coincides with their 25th anniverary.

During the trailer, fans were able to learn that the game is expected to be released in 2025, 12 years after GTA 5 was released.

While fans replying to the tweet on X (formally Twitter) were sad to see that the trailer has been leaked, there is a lot of excitement from the gaming community for when release days arrives.
